My Life So Far — 2023

Based on the poem of the same name by Chessy Normile, which explores themes of overcoming past trauma and coming-of-age in suburban New York. The image depicts locales from Normile's memory, a vision of poisonous mushrooms, and an epiphany about the Statue of Liberty; "have you noticed that she’s walking?"

 

This illustration received the Norman Rockwell Museum Award as part of the 2023 Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition.
